A True Alaskan Multi-Species Adventure
Can’t decide what to fish for? You don’t have to. This trip delivers a true mixed-species Alaskan fishing experience, combining hard-pulling bottom fish with salmon action—all in one unforgettable day on the water.
We mix things up by fishing with heavy rods and tackle in search of halibut and other bottom dwellers, then switching to lighter gear to target salmon. For silver salmon, we typically use a hands-on technique called mooching.
Silver salmon—also known as Coho—are one of Alaska’s most exciting fish to catch, and they are a favorite for anglers of all ages. These fast, hard-fighting fish typically arrive in Resurrection Bay in late June through early July, weighing around 8 to 12 pounds. As the season progresses, their aggressive feeding pushes many silvers to 15 pounds or more by late summer.
Known for their speed and acrobatics, silver salmon often make powerful runs and leap completely out of the water in an effort to throw the hook. Multiple hookups are common, and it’s not unusual to have two, three, or even more fish on at the same time—making for nonstop action and plenty of excitement.
Mooching puts you directly in the action. Each angler jigs a baited hook—usually a strip of herring—and waits for that unmistakable tap. When a silver grabs on, you feel it instantly, set the hook yourself, and the fight is on. When salmon are schooled up, mooching is often more effective than trolling and makes every bite more exciting.
Silver Salmon limits are generous, with up to six fish per person inside Resurrection Bay and three fish per person outside the bay, depending on where we fish.
We typically split the day between salmon fishing and bottom fishing, giving you variety, nonstop action, and the chance to experience Alaska’s diverse fisheries in one trip. Halibut commonly range from 15 to 80 pounds, with larger fish always a possibility in Seward’s productive waters.
If you’re looking for variety, hands-on fishing, and a little bit of everything Alaska is famous for—this trip delivers.
